„I don't know what's wrong with Delilah,“ Casey said, grabbing for his Cola.
„I've invited her to this movie; every girl wants to watch it. The Notebook. It's a love story, so touching at the end. Everyone cried, but all Del said, was:' Bring me home, the music was so loud that now I have a headache.'“
Zeke smirked.
„What did you expect? Del is only interested in herself.“
„She's not that shallow,“ Casey protested, looking slightly offended.
„Hey, I'm sorry, okay, I know, she's your girlfriend. But I'm afraid, she has a different view of things then you have. You are a geek and a romantic, you do believe in love forever. The problem is, that what you can give her is not enough for Del any longer.
She has enjoyed the fame you got, the boy who has saved the world, the media interest, the interviews, the parties you got invited to. She never wanted to see the truth, that this not you and that you can't play this role forever.“
Casey took a sip of his soda and finally sighed.
„Yes, I know,“ he murmured.
„I guess I always knew, that this moment would come. It's just... for a while it felt good, you know. Not to be the geek at school, not to get bullied every day. To be a guy people respect, a guy who makes his parents proud and who is together with the most popular girl at school. It felt good... for a while.“
„Hm.“
Zeke slightly pulled the face.
„To be honest, I prefer you to be a geek forever, the boy with the camera around his neck and the most stubborn shit I've ever met. You made your way, no matter what others thought about it, and I've always secretly envied you for that.
Don't ever change that, Casey, not for Del and not for anyone else, because you are someone very special.“
