"This was supposed to be the trip of my lifetime."
Casey dropped down on the old couch in Zeke's garage, looking moody.
"Can I have a beer?"
Zeke glanced at him shortly, opened the small fridge and grabbed two Heineken.
„Wanna talk about it,“ he asked while he reached one out to Casey.
The boy took a sip, then another one, before he shrugged.
„Paris, you know how long I've waited for it. Some weeks of freedom before College. I've planned this trip through since years, I've read tons of books and magazines, I've even learned some French.
Of course, I wanted to visit the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre. But first of all Montmartre, the bohemian side of town. The Place du Tertre, the Moulin de la Galette, the museum of Dali. The geeky stuff, you know, not the usual touristic tours. Sleeping in hostels or private rooms, dinner in bistros. I wanted to visit the flea markets and..."
He sighed deeply and took another sip.
„Seems as if Del has other ideas in mind when she thinks about Paris.“
„Oh!“
Zeke smirked.
„That's a big surprise. Lemme guess. Shopping tours, exclusive restaurants, and shows, the best hotels. The high society life of Paris. She will never change.
I hope you've told her that this is not an option for you.“
"I've tried. Told her that such a trip is much too expensive for us. But that we will have fun anyway. Paris is not a city only for rich people but for artists and poets, too. It's a city of contrasts..."
Casey pulled the face.
"She called me a pathetic geek and said that she regrets every moment she has wasted with me.
I'm afraid this is the end, I will never be able to give her what she wants. And my dad will be pretty disappointed; he has liked her."
Zeke eyed him thoughtfully.
"And what's with you," he asked.
"Hm. I can't even say. We were together for almost eight months, and at the beginning, it felt really great, but a part of me almost feels relieved now. Though I guess, I will have to rethink my future plans. The art college in Los Angeles never was my first choice, and without her..."
Zeke was smart enough not to show his feelings too openly; it was about time that Casey started to face the truth, that Delilah had never been interested in him but only in the fame he had gotten for a moment after saving the world from an alien.
"When you need someone to talk, I'm here," he said.
"I know, you always were there for me, even if I was not a good friend during the last months."
Suddenly a smile sneaked on Casey's face.
"What do you think, would you like to go to Paris with me? I guess I own you. And have a spare flight ticket."
