The first what Casey noticed when he did wake up was Zeke; the guy was sitting on the bedside, watching him. His hazelnut brown eyes so serious, without the usually amused sparkles, when he said:“ Hey, good morning.“
His voice so low and gentle that Casey frowned. He had expected a lot after this night, the night they had spent together, and it hadn't even been planned. They had watched TV, 2001 - A Space Odysee. Casey had insisted that this was one of the most boring movies he had ever seen and Zeke had tried all to convince him to the contrary. It had been a friendly banter until suddenly Zeke bent forward to kiss him and said:“Will you shut up now, geek boy, you might know a lot about photography, but you don't have a clue of brilliant science fiction movies. It's a classic, that's what it is.“
The rest of the night had been like a neverending dream, but now, in the morning, it was time to face reality. Even if Casey wasn't sure how it would like; could they still be friends, after this surprising one-night-stand? Could they forget it and just move on as if nothing had happened? This night had meant a lot for him, but he wasn't sure how Zeke would feel about it now, despite all he had said and done.
„Hey.“
„You okay?“
„Sure!“
„Good.“
Zeke paused shortly.
„Good. Because I wasn't sure if this... I'm sorry if I took you by surprise with this kiss, I hadn't planned anything like that.“
Casey smiled, feeling slightly uneasy.
„I know, it's okay. It's not that you needed to force me to anything.“
„Good.“
For the third time.
„Because... the last I want is to hurt you, to break you.“
Slowly he reached out, put his thumb on Casey's cheek.
„I care for you in a way I probably shouldn't.
Yeah, it's ridiculous, I know. Believe me; I don't like to feel like that. I've tried to fight it. I've tried to hate you. Everything about you. Your piercing blue eyes, your smile, the way you get along with all the bullying at school. But how can I do that, how can I hate you for being you?"
Zeke paused and smirked.
„Oh God, sorry, I'm talking shit.“
„No, you don't.“
Casey shook his head.
„It can be pretty scaring to feel like this. I've discovered that I might be gay at fifteen, and it took me a while to accept it.“
Zeke huffed slightly.
„I'm not gay,“ he protested weakly.
„No, probably not. Bi, I would say. And tonight you made the second step before the first, I guess, this was not the best idea. Take all the time you need, Zeke, to find out what you want. And when you finally find out that you want to be together with me, I will be there.“
Zeke looked unsure.
„What, if not? When I find out that this night with you was just a one time experience for me? Can you forgive me? Can we still be friends?“
It was good that Casey had learned to hide his feelings. He had accepted it a long time ago that Zeke would never be more than a good friend for him, but this night all his dreams had come true, and it had changed everything. The thought that he would never have this again almost broke his heart. But he knew better than to force anything, and he smiled.
„Friends forever. No mindless one night stand can come between us!“
